In addition to the wildlife that’s outside, we have the animals we live with in our home. Laughing at their antics, yelling when they knock things over, but generally making our lives better.

They are smelly bastards that give us strange looks when we clean up their poop as if they are asking themselves, “Why are the food givers hoarding our waste?” But they are also the ones that run to see if we are ok when we sneeze, cuddle against us when we sleep and bring toys to us wanting to play.

We spend thousands of dollars on them for toys, vet visits, outdoor spaces, and litter and still don’t begrudge it because they occupy a part of our hearts. We cry when they are hurting, laugh when they are being silly and are heartbroken when we have to let them go. We only have them for a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things, but we are in their lives forever.

The commitment of a pet is never taken lightly in our home. One in particular was a huge commitment and his loss is felt every day. We have created shadowboxes with pictures of our dear departed friends and planted rose bushes to commemorate them in every house we buy. We still cry when we think of them or come across video of them playing.

It’s a little cheesy, but the phrase is still true: “Always in our hearts” and “Mrrrrr”
